Zuckerberg As a Major American Sponsor
Mark Zuckerberg is famous as a person who established Facebook. He participates in charity and in 2013 he made donation for Americans in a sum $100m.
M. Zuckerberg is known not only as a person, who has launched a popular Facebook platform, but also as man, who donates millions of dollars. Many mass media sources have proved it in 2013.
He is 29 and he is married. In winter 2013, his spouse, Priscilla Chan donated $990m to California charity organization, known as Silicon Valley Community Foundation. As it was announced by the Chronicle of Philanthropy Zuckerman’s donations take a third part (approximately$3.4bn) of whole sponsors of America, the data included only individuals who made donations over $100m. To be more precise if to count all philanthropists with donations over $100m, so we will get 15. A year before this number was just 11. However, anonymous philanthropists were not counted. In 2012 the richest people of America have donated around $5bn, including $3bn received from Warrant Buffett.
In fact, Zuckerberg takes the second place after Warrant Buffet in a list of generous American philanthropists, when he donated $500m to popular Breakthrough Prize in Life Science and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Next people in this list after Zuckerberg are Phil Knight (Nike Corporation) and Michael Bloomberg. Oregon Health & Science University Foundation received $500m from Mr Knight, and $350m donation was made to Johns Hopkins University by Bloomberg.
It is also interesting that Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest donor in a list of richest philanthropists. Actually, in spite of bad economic situation for the last years, sums of donations from top philanthropists stayed firm. Amount of donations over $1m has also increased, it was $6.1bn total and the last year it was $9.6bn.
